Droitwich U15's 5 - Hereford U15's 38

Sunday, October 21, 2007

Droitwich played host to Hereford, the North Midlands Champions, with a depleted squad, only having 9 players available due to injury. To allow the game to go ahead Hereford supplied six players to bolster the Droitwich nine.

The game was played over three 20 minute sessions. Even with the changes in team players the sides were very evenly matched with Droitwich taking an early lead in the first session with a try scored by Sam O’Brian, without reply from Hereford.

The second session saw Hereford shuffle their players around to give them a chance to play for their chosen team. Even with these changes both teams pressed for points in an engrossing match with Hereford scoring two breakaway tries after a period of constant Droitwich pressure.

The third session followed much the same pattern as the others, with Droitwich pressing for a score of their own and Hereford counter-attacking from all areas of the field and scoring four tries with two conversions.

Droitwich were unlucky on two occasions where it was deemed that the player had not grounded the ball over the try line; and that the player had been pushed into touch just before crossing the line.

Considering the depleted squad the Droitwich nine can hold their heads up in what was a well contested match with many outstanding performances throughout the side.

Man of the Match was Sam O’Brian. Final score Droitwich 5 - Hereford 38.
