Droitwich 50 - Copsewood 0

Saturday, February 24, 2007

Droitwich maintained their one hundred percent record with a clinical dismissal of Copsewood at the Memorial Ground on Saturday.

Droitwich won early quick ball for the backs to run strongly, Ben Cottrell made ground as did young winger Mark Strutt, before a clean lineout take by Phil Horton saw the home pack drive over the line for veteran Nick Godfrey to get the touchdown.

A lightning break by fly half Duncan Hughes found Sean Walker in support to go over and increase the lead.

Another catch and drive saw the impressive forward unit go over again, but this time skipper Dean Goddard got the score.

A flowing three quarter move gave winger Teddy Jones the chance to go over in the corner to make the half time lead 22 points to nil.

The second period Droitwich had the wind on their backs and it was now just a case of how many points they would score and if they could retain another clean sheet. All of the Spa players carried the ball forward with the experienced Jon Andrews to the fore as were the destructive qualities of back row forward James Davies.

Gavin Reese replaced Craig Goode in the forwards and also added to the pack’s dynamic display.

Another fine break by Hughes found Jones in support to get his second, before replacement winger Leon Hopkins zig zagged his way over.

Horton supported well to blaze over and finally Hughes used his bulk to squeeze over, then added the conversion to bring up the half century.

Duncan Hughes who contributed a personal tally of fifteen points added “we did all we had to today and are very much focused on wrapping up the league title as soon as is possible.”

Droitwich remain unbeaten with five games to go and retain their four point lead at the top of the table from Berkswell & Balsall.
