Bromsgrove RFC U16's 12 - Droitwich RFC U16's 32
Sunday, October 1, 2006
Despite horrendous weather conditions Droitwich RFC U16's overcame a spirited Bromsgrove side to take the honours in this local derby.
An early try by captain Tom Stedman gave the away side the platform to build on, which was quickly followed by another from Calum Kinghorn who took his chance superbly. Bromsgrove came back strongly in the first half using the slope to good advantage to claw one back, before a sweetly kicked penalty by Bobby Scott-Walker just before half time increased the Spa side's lead to 15 - 7 at the break.
The second half saw Droitwich pile on the pressure threatening to break through on numerous occasions, only to be thwarted. The breakthrough came from Harry Baillie who crashed over in the corner to give Droitwich breathing space.
The best try of the day was finished off by Will Baillon who scored unopposed in the left corner after some fantastic handling inside Bromsgrove's 22, with the ball passing through virtually everyone's hands, right across the pitch to create the space for him. Droitwich's last try came from a Danny Garner special, who bulldozed over the line with power, clearing everyone out of his way as he crossed the line.
Scott-Walker converted two of his kicks to round off a fantastic Droitwich performance, with Bromsgrove's other score coming from a penalty try.
