Droitwich U15 20 - Hereford U15 0

Sunday, October 9, 2005

Droitwich U15's continued their impressive start to the season with a win over a very strong Hereford side to continue their 100% record. Hereford started the stronger taking the game to Droitwich and asked big questions of their defence.

Handling errors from both sides saw the game swing from one end to the other and a draw looked to be on the cards. By half-time neither side could stamp their authority on the game and, with the scoreline at 0 - 0, tension was high to see who could break the deadlock.

The second half saw Droitwich make a few changes to try and break down a solid Hereford team. The breakthrough came when Connor Davies dug out the ball from the bottom of a ruck on the 5m line and powered over to score.

The backs then started to stamp their authority onto the game as Hereford began to tire. Droitwich increased their lead after good handling along the line resulted in a well taken try by Chris Aston. Matt Thorneycroft then seized on a rare Hereford mistake, bursting through the Hereford line from outside their 22, taking up a good angle to leave their defence stranded.

The best was left until last when Droitwich scored possibly the try of the season, passing along the line with speed and power before cutting back inside for Calum Kinghorn to finish off.

Both Dan Wilkinson and Adam Gwillam put in good performances, while Dan Cerrone showed that he could tackle along with the best. The only down side was when Babylon Tom was yellow carded for over zealous tackling resulting in Droitwich finishing with 14 men.

Credit should go to both sides for an entertaining game of Junior rugby, with both sides giving nothing away.
