Malvern U16 12 - Droitwich 'Gold' U16 33
Sunday, April 17, 2005
The game was a strange game, as once again a slow start from the Droitwich side, with many penalties being awarded against the side, denying the boys any form of sustained attacking. Though once Dan Taylor had crashed through the visitors defence from 25 metres to score the matches 1st try converted by Paul Burton, it become an exercise of competent team rugby, though Malvern contributed to the game with terrific tackling and a strong defence. Though further tries were scored by Ian Young. Glyn Johnson and Skipper Mohsen Yafai with 2 further conversions by Paul Burton leaving half time score 26-0.
The 2nd period was very one sided with the Droitwich boys having 90% possession but a factor of Greedy individual play and excellent defence stopped any further scoring. Infact the Malvern side scored 2 quick tries with 1 being converted which were scored by 1 player running 80 metres through very poor tackling and the other a long kick and poor defence allowed the opposition winger an opportunist try. Giving a very misleading score of 26-12. Though sanity was restored with an absolutely outstanding team try going through 15 pairs of hands from our 22 to eventual try by Ben Raybould with the conversion by paul Burton. Final score 33-12.
