Droitwich Gold U16 31 - Luctonians U16 26
Sunday, March 20, 2005
The game begun with a try in the first minute from Paul Burton which he also converted. Droitwich were in control of open play, but were struggling in the scrum and lineout. However, the excellent handling skills of both backs and forwards produced a number of tries, giving Droitwich a half-time lead of 26-0.
The transformation in the 2nd half was incredible as Luctonians fought back into contention. Droitwich's set piece play was still shocking and, with the opposition No.10 kicking shrewdly, Lucs scored two quick tries. They converted one of those tries to make the score 26-12. Droitwich showed a glimpse of their first half skills when a flowing move allowed Droitwich to score in the corner.
With the score at 31-12 normality appeared to have returned. However, a combination of poor tackling and a bad lineout led to a further 2 converted tries being scored by Lucs to make the score 31-26. Game on. The Droitwich boys hung on - the final tackle of the game being made 5 metres from the Droitwich line. Lucs can count themselves very unlucky to have left Droitwich empty handed.
