Droitwich U16 Blacks 24 - Abergavenney U16 7
Sunday, March 13, 2005
The local-based Droitwich under 16 team travelled to Wales to play another hastily arranged game verses Abergavenney.
On a nice morning played on one of the widest pitches ever seen, (which suited the Blacks' game perfectly) the players had their normal slow coach laden start, but the forwards began to take control after ten minutes. The fast and wide game Droitwich are well known for playing soon came into prominence with the resultant tries scored by Wingers David Pitt (2) and Stefan Buijnsters. Ian Young converted two, enabling the Boys to leap into a 19-0 lead.
Just prior to half time on a rare home team attack the referee awarded Abergavenney a penalty try. This left the half time score 19-7 in the Blacks' favour.
The 2nd period took much the same shape as the 1st, though with continual changes to the side only one further try was scored by Matt Newell leaving the Final Score 24-7 to Droitwich.
Congratulations go to a fine 22 man performance, but especially to Captain Matt Newman for his team leadership and an outstanding individual performance.
