Redditch U14 5 - Droitwich U14 38
Sunday, March 6, 2005
Droitwich U14's progressed into the semi-finals of the North Midland Plate competition with a win over local rivals Redditch.
Droitwich started the brighter of the two sides, putting Redditch under early pressure with Calum Kinghorn crossing the line in the opening minutes, only to see the try ruled out. Kinghorn then crossed the line moments later for the opening score to make up for his earlier disappointment.
From then on it was one way traffic with Jacob Phillips delivering quality ball at the breakdown for the backs to run at the opposition. The forwards were now dominating the game and allowing Droitwich time on the ball.
Good work by Charles Jackson and Luke Harris throughout allowed Droitwich to increase their lead, with Redditch having no answer to Harris's surging runs, breaking through tackles and finding gaps in the Redditch defence with ease.
The second half saw Droitwich carry on where they left off with Max Fitter breaking Redditch's defensive line on numerous occasions. Redditch's try came from a defensive error by Droitwich as they pressed to increase their lead. This only helped Droitwich focus more, which resulted in tries by Matthew Cook and Fitter. Bobby Scott-Walker scored 4 conversions.
Droitwich's Man of the Match was jointly awarded to Phillips and Harris.
Tries by: Calum Kinghorn, Luke Harris (2), Max Fitter (2), Matt Cook
Conversions: Bobby Scott-Walker (4)
