Droitwich Gold U16 19 - Longlevens U16 5
Sunday, February 20, 2005
This fixture was hastily arranged due to Worcester deciding not to play on Friday evening. The game was played in a good spirit but was very competitive.
With the wind at Droitwich backs, Longlevens came out full of adventure and for 20 minutes pinned Droitwich in their own half. It was only determined tackling by the local boys and the occasional knock on by the opposition that kept the scoreline 0-0. During this period Sam Cooper at 7 was outstanding, making an immense tackle count. Just on half time a very good opportunist try by Tom Rouse left the half time score at 5-0 to Droitwich.
The second period changed with Droitwich showing more endeavour and the forwards working well as an eight, to such good effect a very good driving maul covering 25 metres resulted in giant lock Lee Noakes scoring near the posts. Ian Young converted the points despite a strong wind.
Droitwich were now controlling the exchanges, then, after the wind had redirected a punt upfield, carrying the ball backwards 5 metres, Longlevens scored an unconverted try leaving the score 12-5. With time almost up a very good team try was finished off expertly by centre Scott Morris and well converted by Ian Young leaving the final score 19-5 to the Gold side.
