Droitwich Black U16's - Ampthill U16's
Sunday, February 6, 2005
Ampthill's Under 16 squad arrived at Droitwich RFC full of confidence with an undefeated record this season. Droitwich RFC's elite “Black” Under 16 squad were looking forward to playing their first home fixture since November 2004.
The game started well and a drop goal from Ampthill gave them a three point lead. The quick, running game of Droitwich then resulted in two tries, scored by John Harries and Alex Shaw. Both tries were converted by Ian Young leaving the score 14-3 at half-time in Droitwich's favour.
Two further try scoring opportunities were missed due to very poor decision making when Droitwich had four-on-one overlaps. These tries would have put the game out of reach of the opposition, but instead Ampthill were spurred on in the second period.
Ampthill had total control in the second half, with only outstanding defence restricting them to scoring a further unanswered ten points. The final whistle brought relief for Droitwich with the score at 14-13 in their favour.
This was an excellent and competitive game of rugby. Droitwich had four key players unavailable for the match and thus this victory demonstrated the strength in depth of the squad.
The next game for Droitwich U16 Blacks is on Sunday, 13th February 2005 at home to Pontypridd. Kick-off is scheduled for 12.00 noon.
