Sunday, January 16, 2005

Droitwich played host to local rivals Old Halesonians, playing two well contested games.

Droitwich U9's 40 - 0 Old Halesonians

After winning the toss Droitwich found themselves having to defend against a strong set of forwards and some lively backs. Determined tackling from Georgia Flowerdew and Marcus Emmerson kept out a number of Old Halesonian attacking moves.

Sam Philips, Josh Feek and Joseph Terry worked well together in the scrum and won plenty of ball from the rucks and mauls.

Joe Ingle provided quick ball from the base of the scrum which enabled the backs to set up some fluent passing moves.

The best team performance so far was rewarded with a total of eight tries being scored. Scott Howell scored 4 and Michael Fletcher, Joe Ingle, Joel Power and Joseph Terry all scored one each.

The second match followed a similar pattern with Old Halesonians showing great determination to even the score.

Spirited defence from Jamie Spronsen, Oliver Parkes and Michael Ingerfield kept the opposition at bay. The deadlock was eventually broken by a try from Jon Nottingham.

In the best move of the day, Chris Stanley powered over the line after receiving a well timed pass from Tom Flowerdew.

Droitwich's third try was scored by Tom Flowerdew after the ball had been won from a ruck ten yards from the line.
