England call for Shaun Walker
Friday, December 24, 2004
17 year old Sean Walker brought a bit of Christmas cheer to Droitwich RFC this week when it was announced that he had been selected for the England Colleges squad.
The Droitwich teenager plays for his college side and was a regular in the first team earlier in the season until an injury blunted his progress.
His dedication to the sport is epitomised by the way he trains for five hours a week with his college side in addition to the training he does with Droitwich RFC.
Director of Rugby, Julian Bailey rested him after the injury to prevent him burning out but is full of praise for his young charge,
“It's a tremendous honour for the young lad and we are delighted because he is one of our own and has come through the system, so we are so proud…
…He is a lesson to any youngster in the game as he is showing them what they can do if they practice.”
Walker goes into the squad for the College internationals which are scheduled for the end of the domestic season in late April and early May next year. The squad consists of players from colleges across England and is regarded as an important first step for any young rugby player.
Congratulations Sean!
