Bromsgrove U9's versus Droitwich U9's

Sunday, December 12, 2004

Droitwich RFC under 9's games at Bromsgrove on Sunday were the most exciting yet. The ‘controlled’ aggression was certainly showing through with three closely contested games that could have gone either way (except the third that is!) Well done to all who played.

Game 1 – Draw 15-15
Most of the first half was taken up with both teams fighting for possession and territory with Joseph Terry leading the way ripping the ball and running well. Droitwich, with Joseph, were first to score but immediately let Bromsgrove back in with two run away tries. Not deterred Droitwich came back with a further try from Joseph and Tom Flowerdew. Bromsgrove never gave up and at the final whistle a draw was a fair result.

Game 2 – Draw 15-15
After a short rest the second game kept up the pace and high standard of the first with two blind side tries from the base of the scrum by Joe Ingle and a strong running try from Marcus Emmerson. Droitwich dominated this game only to see it slip away in the final minute. But a good draw all the same. Great play also by Georgia Flowerdew, Sam Philips and the Fletcher twins.

Game 3 – Won 10-0
The squad showed great stamina in the third, shorter game, overpowering Bromsgrove quite literally with Jack Guy finally realising that he is twice the size of the others making strong direct runs and being rewarded with a try. The victory was sealed with a try from Chris, well deserved after a morning of strong running.
