Evesham U16's 7 - Droitwich Gold U16's 32

Sunday, December 5, 2004

Droitwich Gold Under 16's continued their very successful season by beating Evesham 32-7.

The first half was very disjointed and certain parts of the game were very poor, one such area being the scrum. A far better organised, and by far outweighed, Evesham pack had great success in this facet of the game.

The onus was placed on the Droitwich backs and midway through the first period a good try was scored. Every back touched the ball resulting in James Nicholson scoring in the corner. The second try came right out of the blue and on the stroke of half-time when giant lock Lee Nokes powered over. Half-time score, 10-0.

Even though the second period improved, with more urgency from the pack, the scrum and lineout were a disaster. However, the superior technique of the Gold side enabled quick tries from Matt Newell, Richard Reece and Rob “Gord” Price that took the game out of the reach of the home club. At 25-0 Evesham scored a consolation converted try to make the score 25-7. Then, as the game drew to a close, Lee Nokes scored another trademark try, which was converted by Ben Raybould. Final Score 32-7.

A concern in both the Gold and Black squads is the inability to kick, whether it be conversions or penalties. This is placing too much pressure on the teams to score tries to ensure the win by outscoring opponents heavily
