Hereford 3rd XV 41 - Droitwich 3rd XV 15

Saturday, September 25, 2004

Droitwich RFC 3rdXV travelled to Hereford to face a 3rd team that included a number of last year's North Mids. Colts and some returning first team players.

This said, Droitwich had the majority of the possession and territory in the first half but were unable to turn this into points.

Hereford capitalised on a couple of turn overs and scored a number of break away tries where the Droitwich defence just could not cover all points of attack.

Droitwich did have some success when the forwards rolled a maul that put Paul Bowditch over the line. Flyhalf Max Edwards added a penalty and Droitwich went into the break 31-8 down.

The second half was brighter for Droitwich with more possession that resulted in James Fletcher touching down for a try. Unfortunately, the ref disallowed the try because he was unsighted.

Again, Hereford were quick to capitalise on half chances and scored two more unconverted tries. But Droitwich, down to 14 men when Edwards went off after a late tackle, dominated the last ten minutes and scored a well worked try through full back Adam Howard.

Next week the 3rds face Old Halesonians, at Droitwich, in the Merit League.
