Droitwich Canals Project Update

Sunday, 22nd June, 2008

The Droitwich Canals Project is well and truly under way. The Canal Trust are currently trapping the wildlife around the club perimeter in readiness for the canal to be dug.

Members will probably have seen the blue barriers and sunken buckets dotted along the perimeter of the canal/Droitwich RFC land used as traps. These are patrolled regularly by wildlife officers and emptied with anything caught moved to another site and released. The buckets have apparently been very successful and a large number of newts, toads and the occasional grass snake have been moved to other sites.

The canal project will shortly move into the fields in front of the club to dig the new cutting. Construction of a new driveway and bridge is imminent, but at this time we haven’t been given any date for this work to start.

So it’s a question of watch this space, as the canal project will hopefully help provide more parking spaces for the club when completed.
