Yardley & District U16’s 5 - Droitwich U16’s 52

Sunday, 11th March, 2007

A good performance from Droitwich U16’s saw them overcome a spirited Yardley & District side.

The first half saw Droitwich having to put in a disciplined performance to overcome a strong pack. The opening score came from Max Fitter who broke the deadlock and allowed Droitwich to settle into their stride.

Their lead was further increased when Shamus Williams-Sharkey crossed the line for his first try of the season.

Harry Baillie kept the scoreboard ticking when he scored to give the away side a 19 point lead at the break.

Dan Wilkinson was unlucky on a number of occasions playing superbly throughout, with only a determined Yardley defence keeping him out.

The second half saw Droitwich make numerous changes and it was in the opening minutes that Yardley scored their only points down the wing.

This only spurred Droitwich to up their game and it wasn’t long before Danny Garner crashed over.

Droitwich were now in full flow and Yardley, forced to defend against the Droitwich attack, made very few forays into Droitwich territory.

The game was finished off when both Baillie and Adam Gwilliam grabbed two more tries each, with Gwilliam outpacing the opposition twice to burst through their defence and score under the posts.

Droitwich’s Man of the Match was awarded to Jon Dowson for his tireless work throughout. Bobby Scott-Walker converted six out of his eight attempts at goal.
