Droitwich RFC U16’s 35 - Dudley Kingswinford RFC U16’s 0

Sunday, 4th March, 2007

Droitwich RFC U16’s swept into the U16’s North Mids. Plate Final, after overcoming a determined Dudley K side.

In horrendous conditions Droitwich got off to a flying start when Captain Tom Stedman touched down in the first five minutes.

With the wind at their backs Droitwich further extended their lead through Jack Pomroy, who finished off a good move, running into space to score under the posts.

Chris Rouse then crashed over to give Droitwich a 21 - 0 lead at half time, with Droitwich having penned DK into their own half for most of the time.

With conditions worsening all the time and with the wind and rain in their faces Droitwich’s defence worked tirelessly throughout the second half to stop DK’s attacks.

Droitwich continued to press to extend their lead further and were rewarded when Barry Francis sprinted down the right wing to slide over.

The final try came when Pomroy broke clear to score his second down the left.

Bobby Scott-Walker made all five conversion attempts count in very difficult conditions, slotting them through the posts from all over the pitch. Droitwich’s man of the match was awarded to Captain Tom Stedman.

Droitwich’s win has set up an exciting North Mids. Plate Final with Bromsgrove on April 22nd at Droitwich RFC.

“Many congratulations to the Under 16’s in reaching the Plate final. This was a thoroughly comprehensive and deserved win against Dudley Kingswinford in the worst playing conditions that I have seen at the Memorial ground this year.

Your handling skills, commitment and team work were outstanding. Every member of the Club present was extremely proud of your achievement. Well done and good luck in the final on 22 April.”
