Shipston On Stour RFC U16’s 0 - Droitwich RFC U16’s 34

Sunday 28th January 2007

Droitwich U16’s travelled to Shipston and gave a good account of themselves on a sloping pitch.

Playing uphill in the first half Droitwich started brightly, being denied in the corner in the opening seconds after some slick handling. Moments later they were rewarded when Charlie Fry ran into the opposite corner after the ball was passed quickly along the line, leaving numbers in space.

Droitwich forwards dominated the game from start to finish with Shipston having to put in some brave tackles to stop the pack from bull dozing their way through. This allowed the backs to attack the space being created for them and gain territorial advantage.

Harry Baille scored the second after crashing through Shipston’s defence, while superb running from Max Fitter brought up Droitwich’s third after breaking through half a dozen tackles to score from the half way line, handing off everyone that came near him.

The second half saw the best try of the day from Sam Davenport who finished off a fantastic flowing move which involved the whole team and was perfectly executed by the backs. The execution of this try saw confidence grow and Droitwich started to raise their game with Baillie crossing the line to score his second of the game.

The final try came from Connor Davies who made no mistakes, after seeing an earlier effort ruled out.

Bobby Scott-Walker converted two kicks to complete the scoring.
