Droitwich RFC U16’s 50 - Keresley RFC U16’s 10

Sunday 3rd December 2006

In blustery, wet conditions Droitwich U16’s dug deep to record a good win over a spirited Keresley side.

The first 15 minutes saw both sides evenly matched with Droitwich playing into the wind. Sam Davenport opened the scoring with a superb chip and run from full-back and finished with style.
This was quickly followed by Chris Rouse who charged down a clearance kick and broke through the opponent’s defence to score, to give Droitwich a 10 - 5 lead at half-time.

With the wind at their backs Droitwich started to pile the pressure onto Keresley, with Bobby Scott-Walker kicking to space and making Keresley work hard for territory and Connor Davies putting in some strong surging runs.

It wasn’t long before pressure turned into points, when Jacob Phillips collected an inside pass and piled over. This was soon followed with a strong individual run by Max Fitter who muscled his way through numerous tackles to score under the posts.

This proved the turning point and quick tries followed from Will Baillon and Harry Baillie after some excellent team work. Droitwich’s try count was completed by Rouse and Fitter who both charged clear to score their second of the game.

Five of the home side conversion kicks were successful, with Bobby Scott-Walker (3) and man of the match Sam Davenport (2) scoring.

A special thank you must go to Keresley RFC, for travelling down to Droitwich from Coventry at short notice after our original fixture was cancelled.

Droitwich’s Mini & Junior section recorded some excellent results on Sunday, with Droitwich U15’s & U14’s overcoming near neighbours Worcester RFC at Droitwich. The U14’s won by a large margin.
