Club Project: GRANDSTAND
Sunday, 1st January, 2006
I know that all sections of Droitwich RFC now pull together for the benefit of the Club, but I am initiating a long term project which I hope will unify the club even more.
We have facilities which are the envy of all others, but what we ideally need is a grandstand. We did have planning permission for one, on the far side of the pitch, but I guess that permission has expired now. The construction of a stand has been a dream of mine and of many others I know, but that’s all it has been. I want to action the dream so that it becomes a reality.
I am asking the Treasurer to open a separate bank account and invite you all as members to focus your minds on fund raising tasks for this project, as a common Club goal.
I do not a have specific design in mind at the moment, but will be seeking thoughts and ideas from you all in line with the time scales below. Don’t be afraid to make suggestions. We need it right first time – all ideas are welcomed.
The project will be managed along these lines:
- Open bank account so that funding /sponsorship can commence – by 26.11.05.
- Counsel opinions and receive suggestions as to size, type, location etc. – by 31.12.05.
- Present ideas to Management Committee which will be open forum – management meeting January 2006.
- Instruct professional to draw up plans. February 2006, then publish on website.
- Obtain costings which will provide likely time scales involved.
- Seek planning permission.
- Organise fund raising events and seek sponsors.
- Instruct builders.
As soon as I have details of the bank account I will publish these on the site for donations/sponsors etc.
Ideally I hope a member from each section of the Club would form part of the project management team, and in that way there will be direct access to all priorities and different views thus ensuring everyone buys into the project.
It would be useful to know if we have any professionals at the club who can give a steer, or would be willing to assist in plan drawing etc.
In the meantime if anyone has any thoughts, or is willing to form part of the project management team, please e-mail me at .
I am certain that this goal will be achievable, and convinced that the construction will be of benefit to the club, its members, and may even enable us to hold higher status games at the Memorial Ground.
Thanks,
Rob Bray
