Droitwich U15 21 - Nuneaton U15 19

Sunday, 13th November, 2005

Both teams gave 100% in this exciting game and played some excellent rugby throughout. With both teams having players away on county duty the sides were evenly matched and both played some physical rugby from start to finish.

The opening score came through Jack Pomroy who intercepted a loose pass to run the length of the pitch to score. Nuneaton soon struck back to level the score minutes later.

Droitwich had their lead restored through a well worked effort by the Droitwich pack that was rewarded when Harry Baille touched down near to the posts. Nuneaton once again responded and came back to within 2 points after missing their conversion. At half-time the score was 14 -12 to Droitwich.

The second half saw Droitwich having to defend strongly as Nuneaton looked for the opening. The Droitwich defence seemed to be holding until, with ten minutes to go, Nuneaton seized upon a loose pass from the Droitwich backs and ran in to score unopposed. It was now Droitwich that needed to respond, which they did through Luke Harris (MoM). Harris made a blistering run down the left, beating four defenders on the outside to score under the posts.

Matt Thorneycroft had a fantastic game, scoring all three of his conversions which proved crucial in this tight game. He has given the team an extra kicking option for the rest of the season.

Droitwich U14’s gave a spirited performance against Stourbridge. Stourbridge ran out eventual winners by 24 - 7 with the only try for Droitwich coming from Sam Jones.
