Bedworth 33 - Droitwich 3

Saturday, 6th November, 2004

After Saturday’s defeat to fellow strugglers Bedworth, Droitwich need to find some bouncebackability if they are to entertain any hope of avoiding the drop this season.

Droitwich went into the game welcoming back winger Jamie Faulkener, centre Tom Child and prop Jonno Watkins.

Playing on a poor pitch it was Droitwich who applied the early pressure with the forward pack making good ground in the early stages. But it would be Bedworth who would take the lead with a flowing backs move after 10 minutes.

Droitwich hit back though straight away through the boot of skipper Matt Blackmore to make the score 7-3. Droitwich then went close with the excellent Chris Hooper kicking through for Phil Horton to run on to the loose ball, unfortunately Horton was to knock the ball on over the try line.

Spa then had another effort ruled out when veteran prop Ade Spencer was said to have been held up over the line by the match official. Bedworth continued to put the pressure on Spa with a penalty kick and another converted try to go in at half time leading 17-3.

After the break Droitwich came out and again controlled the opening few minutes but were unable to stop Bedworth scoring a further two tries and two penalties to win the game 33-3.

Droitwich face Earlsdon at home next week in what, like every other game between now and the end of the season, is a must-win game. 2.15 kick off.
