Rugby Lions U16 23 - Droitwich Gold U16 12

Sunday 17th October 2004

A hastily arranged fixture versus Rugby Lions was organised after the late withdrawal of Old Halesonians.

After the resounding victories over Dudley Kingswinford and Hereford in their two opening games, it was decided to step up the quality of opposition and play Rugby Lions, in Rugby, to allow the coaches to gauge how far the squad had improved.

The opposition proved very strong and the side were quickly down 11-0, but the determination of the pack allowed a very good period of possession and a try was scored by Paul Byrne, leaving the half time score 11-5.

The second period was quite even, though Rugby scored a quick try, which was duly converted taking the score to 18-5. A strong charge downfield by Lee Nokes resulted in Gary Hart touching down and Ian Young converted to make it 18-12. Rugby fought back and scored a further try in injury time to seal a victory 23-12.

It was a very worthwhile game against good opposition, with the excercise proving to be a success and our Gold side displaying considerable improvement. The season augurs well.
