Droitwich RFC Under 16’s win 12 spots in county squad

Twelve players from Droitwich RFC have been selected for Worcestershire’s Under 16 squad following trials held on Tuesday, 21st September.

22 players from the Droitwich RFC Under 16 squad attended the newly amalgamated schools and clubs trial at King’s School Worcester. The county’s selectors were looking for the best players from across Worcestershire to form their squad of 22 for this season’s North Midlands Championship.

The North Midlands Championship is played over two Mondays – 27th September and 4th October – between Shropshire, Herefordshire, Greater Birmingham and Worcestershire and is used as a tournament to select players to represent North Mids. in the Midlands County Championship.

The first match, versus Shropshire, will be played at Droitwich Rugby Club on Monday, 27th September. Kick-off is scheduled for 6.00 pm. Rugby club members are encouraged to turn up and give their support to our boys.

The following players from Droitwich have been selected to start:

  • Matthew Newman (loose head prop)
  • Mohsen Yafai (hooker)
  • Chad Richardson (tight head prop)
  • Matthew Edgar (lock)
  • Paul Byrne (blindside)
  • David Pitt (left wing)
  • Ted Lang (inside centre)
  • Mike Penn (fullback)

In addition Dan Evans (prop), Dan Taylor (hooker), Richard Lea (lock) and Scott Morris (centre) are on the replacements’ bench.

Droitwich openside flanker Mike Jones will also be playing at the club on Monday as he will be representing Greater Birmingham in their match versus Herefordshire.
